Just to put things in perspective: 21000 shots over a 4 year period versus 7100 shots over the following 4 year period.

for a lot of photographs apparently.
I heard some bit of wisdom the other day that to master anything one needs to practice it for 10,000 hours. So, let's do the math here with respect to photography: Let's say on average your exposure is 1/100th of a second. Some photos are snapped at faster shutter speed, and some slower, lets just make the assumption that it averages out to 1/100. ... you know where I am going with this... one second worth of pictures on average is a hundred pictures. sixty seconds in a minute and sixty minutes in an hour. That is 360 million photographs before you master the craft. OKAY... too much? Lets say you spend a few minutes setting up for each shot... i think no matter how you cut it we're looking at too many shots to ever fully master the craft (according to "ancient" wisdom above). Guess we all just need to keep practicing :) Nine years ago tomorrow, I was 'inspired' to snap a photograph very similar to this one... taken in exactly the same place. I affectionately named it "On the Edge of Forever". My muse for that photo went on to inspire me for many more photographs, and ultimately to view the world in a different way. This was reflected in my photos - which went from a dark, moody type of picture to something that more illustrated the beauty of the world. It also reflected in my outlook on life. I felt like anything could be shown in a light of beauty. I hope, 9 years later, that this muse will once again enter my life someday.
Just recently acquired a cheap knock-off of a GoPro type camera. I decided to try it out this morning. All in all, not too bad. I think I should have cleaned it a bit, or brought a cloth to clean it with, as I kinda got slimy lake water all over it. I will probably use it more often now that I know it works ok. btw: accidentally dropped it on the ground getting ready, and other than jarring the memory card loose, it survived no problem. The last bit of video is taken with my cell phone, and shows the mounting on the kayak ( just a stick-on). Took my new camera on a trip this past weekend. I challenged my camera but also (I think) stretched my own limits of what I could do. How do you take photographs of fireflies? I also found out different ways of using my phone (and found out that tree frogs are very photogenic). Tree frog serenade.... |
