A breathtaking event at the Mountsberg Raptor centre today. Had some close-up time with some birds that are so photogenic, and a guide who sets up the outdoor studio so that literally - you can't miss. Loved it and will do it again sometime. check out the shots: http://eaupositivephotography.weebly.com/raptors-in-focus.html and check out the conservation area: http://www.conservationhalton.on.ca/mountsberg-raptor-centre

Everything I read about developing yourself as a photographer says 'find your own style', don't look for others' tripod marks and shoot what they shoot, always try to find a new viewpoint, a new way of looking at something. Personally, I don't see a problem with making sure your technique will give you what you envision. I consider it a failure if you just go out and shoot and accept what you come back with - without understanding how or why the shots turned out the way they did. I have no issue with trying to get exactly the same type of shot, the same style as something you like, something you find appealing - following someone else's procedures and tracking this process until you know that what you did resulted in what you got.... and then move on to do what you want, and achieve it. Feel free to experiment, but only when you completely know what you are doing and what you want to accomplish. If you don't accomplish it, then figure out why, make adjustments and shoot again... or realize why it won't work. The moral is - develop your technique to perfection, develop your style to your satisfaction using this perfect technique. As Andrew, my son would say... "Later days" |
